Bagged Marketside Green Beans and Butternut Squash shipped to Walmart stores in nine states (including North Carolina) have been recalled due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
Southern Specialties Inc. of Pompano Beach, Florida voluntarily recalled the select bags of produce "after a raw material supplier notified the company that it was issuing a recall after a routine test of a food contact surface tested positive for the bacterium," according to the recall notice issued on Feb. 25, 2019.

The recalled products were shipped to a single distribution center, and some of the recalled product may have been sent to stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

The recall notice indicates that "Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."
