It’s hard to believe that it has been 436 days (December 12, 2018) since Raleigh saw its last measurable snow. We can finally say that drought is over, and the sight is welcomed by many North Carolinians. So how much snow did we see?

All totals above come from individuals who have a proven history of providing accurate snowfall totals to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh, NC. Many of you may have totals more or less than totals reported above, and that is expected. Why? As you can imagine, snow, just like rain, does not fall uniformly across a backyard let alone an entire town. Unfortunately, the NWS in Raleigh only has so many trusted individuals to provide accurate reports and so reports are usually limited.
So how did meteorologists at WRAL do?
Here is the last snow total and timing forecast for Thursday’s event compiled by the team of WRAL Meteorologists.
While a few areas, like northern Wake County and Franklin County, had an inch more than forecast and others, like Harnett county, had an inch less than forecast, the forecast was solid and it verified well. The timing of the rain, transition from rain to snow and the final transition to all snow was nailed down days in advance. WRAL meteorologists made little change to the timing over the week and it shows that you can truly count on their forecast and coverage for the next event.
