Man who shot state trooper sentenced to 40 years in prison

A man who shot a North Carolina state trooper in the face during a traffic stop in Durham last year was sentenced Friday to additional jail time.

Chief United States District Judge William L. Osteen, Jr. sentenced Mikel Edward Brady II to 40 years in prison followed by 5 years of supervised release for possession of a firearm by a felon. 

Last year Brady shot Trooper Michael Potts in the face, hands and right shoulder following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 70 near Cheek Road.

Brady has already been sentenced to 24 years for attempted murder.

Brady, who is originally from Vermont, has a criminal record that includes convictions for burglary, home invasion and possession of stolen explosives.
