It was more than a week ago that heavy winds and rain from Hurricane Matthew displaced families from their homes, but the homes of many residents eastward of the Triangle are still partially underwater.

A dog swam through floodwaters in Edgecombe County Sunday morning as rescue crews plucked people from homes in Pinetops. The dog was rescued by officials, Gov. Pat McCrory said.
