Snow covers NC Jan. 3-4, 2018

A day after a winter storm hit central and eastern North Carolina, many secondary roads were still covered with snow and ice on Friday.

As much as 4 inches of snow fell in areas in and around New Hanover County on Wednesday, and many called the snow a welcome sight.

School will be canceled for second day for students in Johnston, Durham and Cumberland counties and in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School District Friday as North Carolina digs out from a winter storm.

Kids who had the day off from school enjoyed some sledding at Dorothea Dix Park on Thursday.

Sky 5 on Thursday took a look at roadways around the Triangle that were blanketed with snow.

Two traffic deaths were reported early Thursday morning among many minor crashes around central and eastern North Carolina after a winter storm dumped snow along the East Coast on Wednesday and overnight.

Law enforcement authorities were warning Triangle residents to stay off the roads if at all possible because secondary roads were treacherous.
