Bars and restaurants across the Triangle are temporarily closing amid growing concerns over the coronavirus.

In Durham, Bull McCabes Irish Pub has closed indefinitely to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Jeddah's Tea, located in downtown Durham, made the tough decision to close.

"The reality is we have immune-compromised employees, immune-compromised customers, and so we just wanted to create a safer space by not being a functioning space," Jeddah's owner Morgan Siegel said. "We just thought it was the right move for our community and a safer move for our space."

Ponysaurus Brewing, Kingfisher Bar and Motorco's Parts and Labor have also closed.

"I think the science is pretty clear that people really should be staying away from each other right now," Kingfisher co-owner Michelle Vanderwalker said. "Just for the safety of the town, the community, and our staff, that’s why we ultimately made the decision to go ahead and close. It’s a really hard decision for small business owners."

Kingfisher co-owner Sean Umstead said they are giving each employee $400 a week for up to a month. "Then everyone has access to a $1,000 advance on future earnings that they can pay back over the course of the next three months once we reopen," he said.

That system will be re-evaluated as time goes on, Umstead said.

And for those missing having a drink at Kingfisher, Umstead has a way to still celebrate happy hour.

"Though we're closed, we are going to have a virtual happy hour every day at 4:30 p.m. on Instagram. We’re going to make drinks. Teach people how to make them at home," he said. "It's just our way of saying we’re still here for you and we want to be your bar, even though we don’t feel like we can open the doors right now."

Lucky's Deli and Toast have also closed their dining rooms, but are offering curbside pick-up or delivery. NanaSteak has also closed its dining room and is exploring take-out options.

Raleigh chef Ashley Christensen announced that her downtown restaurants would be closed in-house dining starting Monday. Several of her restaurants are, however, offering take-out.
