Clayton police chief placed on administrative leave

Clayton Police Chief Blair Myhand was placed on paid administrative leave on Monday night.

The details on why Myhand was placed on leave have not been announced.

Maj. Jon Gerrell will run the Clayton Police Department while Myhand is on leave.

Myhand has been chief of the department since 2017.

In July, town council member Jason Thompson questioned the use of $3,600 to provide protection for Myhand. An officer was assigned to guard the chief’s house around the clock from June 3 to June 7.

Town spokeswoman Stacy Beard said the chief received a threat against himself and his home in early June.

Thompson said he supports Myhand but doesn't support using public funds for private security.
