On Thursday morning, I got a look at Nash Community College's Virtra simulator, an immersive police training tool that takes officers inside real-world law enforcement scenarios.
Every member of the Zebulon Police Department trains on the tool to learn how to deescalate confrontations.

I was shocked by how real the simulator felt. The scene changes based on how officers act or speak, just like a real incident on the street, and the system can even react to how the officer uses a weapon. But the idea of the training is to end confrontations without having to use any force at all, something Zebulon PD hopes will make a positive impact in their community.
