Activate Good is hosting its annual day of service in honor of those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

For the past 13 years, this nonprofit has been hosting 9/11 day of service volunteer opportunities. This year, there will be dozens of service projects all around the Triangle, including sorting and packaging food, litter pickup, landscaping and beautifying schools.

Before COVID, thousands of volunteers participated in the 9/11 day of service, Activate Good Executive Director Amber Smith said. "This year, we're kind of getting back into the swing of things."

Projects will be happening Friday, Sept. 9, Saturday, Sept. 10, and Sunday, Sept. 11.

Several volunteer opportunities involve Raleigh schools. There are Signature School Makeover Projects at Creech Road Elementary, Baileywick Elementary and Barwell Road Elementary in Raleigh.

At Barwell Road, 70 more volunteers are needed to repaint the halls in the school.

"That's something that the school let us know that they would really love to see, to make sure we got a fresh and vibrant environment for the kiddos going there," Smith said.

The school makeover projects are part of Activate Good's eLOVEate Schools Project, which aims to help local schools in need.

              • Signature School Makeover Project - Baileywick Elementary (Raleigh)

                • Signature School Makeover Project - Barwell Road Elementary (Raleigh)

                  • Giving Back to Emergency Responders with a day of fun! at Horses for Hope TRC Inc

                    • Protect Umstead State Park, help provide stormwater treatment and shade with The Umstead Coalition
