A woman died after falling off a cliff on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina this weekend.

Reems Creek Firefighters responded to the fatal fall. At around 12 p.m., dispatch notified crews a hiker had fallen near Glass Mine Falls.

Crews were able to rappel over 100 feet down and locate the hiker, who had died from her injuries.

According to reports from WYFF, the woman was identified as Nancy Sampson, age 61, from South Carolina.

When rangers arrived on scene, they confirmed the woman, Nancy Sampson, 61, of Greer, South Carolina, had succumbed to injuries from her fall. Rescuers say she was located approximately 150 feet below the overlook.

Reems Creek, Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt. Mitchell State Park, Reynolds Rescue and Mountain Area Medical Lift all responded to the scene.
