NC rescue teams save dog trapped in mineshaft

A Beagle mix named Jackson is getting lots of love after a scary fall into a mineshaft in Gold Hill.

On Saturday, Jackson fell into a 20-foot unmarked mineshaft in someone's backyard. The Gold Hill Volunteer Fire Department and other Rowan County rescue squads worked together to rescue Jackson from the bottom of the mineshaft.

The fire department called in certified rescuers, who entered the hole off Old Beatties Ford Road.

Everyone got out of the mineshaft safely. Jackson is doing fine and was reunited with his owner.

"Great teamwork today for all the rescuers involved. Thanks to all the departments that came out to help rescue this lucky dog," the Gold Hill Fire Department said in a statement.
