A man was arrested on Friday for firing shots into the ground in front of a gas station in Moore County.

Around 9:30 a.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a person shooting into the ground with a handgun outside his truck in the parking lot of the Shell gas station in Seven Lakes.

The first responding deputy arrived on the scene as the shots were being fired and told the shooter to put the gun down, which he did.

The shooter, was later identified as 67-year-old Anthony Lee Furr.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Further investigation showed that Furr did not leave in his vehicle, as previously believed.

A second handgun was found in one of Furr's pockets, and records show that he does not have a permit to carry a concealed handgun.

Furr was charged with one count of misdemeanor going armed to the terror of the people and one count of carrying a concealed weapon.

He was taken to the Moore County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond, pending an appearance in Moore County District Court on Wednesday.

An investigation is underway to determine the motive for the shooting.
