A mother linked to the disappearance of a Durham child that triggered an Amber Alert made her first court appearance on Monday.
Mariah King was arrested Friday afternoon when police found her son, Geon King-Parriett. An Amber Alert was issued on Thursday night.

King, 33, was charged with abduction of children and served two warrants for failure to appear in court for a probation violation. On Monday, the judge kept the same bond on that abduction of children charge.
King was crying during her first appearance. She grew especially upset when the prosecutor argued for her to have no contact with her 9-year-old son, Geon. The judge agreed with the prosecutor.
The prosecutor also pointed out two failure to appear charges that King is also facing, along with her criminal history.
"Her convictions date back to 2010 for disorderly conduct, assault on a government official, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, DWI, malicious conduct by a prisoner, so the state would allege that she is at least a level three," a prosecutor said.
The defense attorney said that King is a single mother of three children, a 9-year-old, 6-year-old and a 5-year-old. The defense said King has lived in Durham since 1997, works two jobs, and takes care of her disabled mother.
The attorney asked for the bond to be reduced to $10,000, but the judge kept it at $20,000.
Since the start of 2023, there have been 24 Amber Alerts issued in North Carolina. In 14 of the 24 alerts, at least one parent has been a suspect.
