Raleigh police are warning residents to be on the lookout after a rabid fox attacked two dogs.
Animal Control officers responded to a call Thursday in the 2300 block of Florida Court about an animal attack.

On the scene, the officer captured the fox. Authorities said the fox later tested positive for rabies.
Dog owner Meghan Griffin described the incident as "very stressful and high tense."
Her golden retriever and mixed breed were attacked while in her backyard.

"You always think about how much worse it could have been if they were actually bitten or we were bitten or anything like that," Griffin said.
Raleigh police report that this is the fifth rabid animal case this year, and the third involving a rabid fox.
"I never even really considered it until it’s happened and now it’s something that I feel like I’m always kind of going to be looking out for," Griffin said.
Griffin's dogs are currently under a 45-day quarantine at home, police said.
Animal Control urges residents to report any observations of unusual animal behavior or concerns immediately by calling 919-831-6311.
In addition, Wake County health officials have offered the following tips to help reduce the risk of rabies:
- Do not approach unfamiliar animals.
- Ensure pets are up to date on rabies vaccinations. If pets are allowed outside, a booster vaccine is recommended. Keep outdoor pets indoors until they receive their booster shots.
- Avoid feeding stray or unknown animals, including cats and dogs.
- Store trash and food in tightly sealed containers to prevent attracting wildlife.
- If feeding pets outside, do not leave food out overnight.
- If a pet comes into contact with a potentially rabid animal, contact a veterinarian immediately.
