The Hoke County sheriff saved an infant from drowning Sunday.
"After leaving church, I was traveling on the highway when I heard a dispatch call about a child drowning," Sheriff Roderick Virgil said on Facebook.

Virgil said he was less than three minutes away, so he responded immediately.
"I grabbed my medical equipment and began performing CPR and applied the AED on the infant," he said. "After a few short intense minutes, additional emergency personnel arrived to assist, and together, we provided care before transporting the infant to a nearby hospital."
"Thanks to everyone’s efforts, the baby regained a pulse and is now breathing."
Virgil said this serves as a true example of what can be achieved "when we unite for a common cause."
