Sheriff: Teen crashed stolen vehicle into porch of Durham home

The Durham County Sheriff's Office said a 15-year-old stole a car and crashed into a home on Wednesday night.

Just after 10 p.m., a deputy from the Durham County Sheriff’s Office saw a driver operating a vehicle recklessly on Dearborn Drive in Durham.

The deputy tried to initiate a traffic stop but the driver refused to pull over and turned onto Thelma Street. The driver, a 15-year-old male, hit a vehicle parked in a driveway and then crashed into the porch of a home. After the crash, the driver ran from the scene.

A responding K-9 team found the driver hiding behind a nearby home. The driver was taken into custody.

A secured custody order was granted and a juvenile petition was completed on charges of felony flee/elude arrest with a motor vehicle, damage to personal property and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
