A lockdown was lifted Friday at Hillside High School after authorities responded to reports of a suspicious person on campus.

Before 3 p.m., the Durham Police Department and the Durham County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a weapon on campus. The school went into a lockdown while they responded.

According to a spokesperson for Durham Public Schools, a student reported seeing a suspicious person on campus but did not see a gun.

Authorities searched the school and did not find a weapon. The lockdown was lifted around 4:30 p.m.

According to authorities, Hillside High School is at 3727 Fayetteville Road in Durham.

In 2023, four teenagers were charged after a Hillside High School student was shot and killed on the American Tobacco Trail, near the school.

Anthony Feaster, 17, was killed. A 15-year-old boy, also a Hillside student, was injured in the shooting.
