The Moore County Sheriff's Office has arrested and charged a 47-year-old man in connection with a deliberate attack that left another man severely burned.

Travis Cleve Pierce, of Asheboro, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, malicious use of an incendiary material to cause injury, and burning personal property.

Police say the victim, a 31-year-old man remains in critical condition at UNC Hospital after sustaining severe burns during the assault.

Sheriff Ronnie Fields said, on Dec. 9 around 9:15 p.m., a man came into the Dollar General along N.C. Highway 705 in Westmoore looking for help after being severely burned.

EMS personnel transported the victim to the burn center in Chapel Hill for further treatment.

Investigators have evidence that Pierce deliberately threw a flammable substance on the victim and ignited the substance, causing significant injury.
