An Apex woman finds a red Angus bull roaming the neighborhood
OK
All right just to let you know we are recording
now
Yeah
How are you today I'm great
Good
All right so yeah I bet
So go to the start and can you just tell
me again like what we spoke about on the phone
How did you first see the ball and what was
your initial reaction Um basically it started when my son
came into the house and said Mom there's a cow
in the neighbor's yard and we didn't think anything about
it at first because she does have two miniature jerseys
but they've always been in the back of her property
in a pen
Very quickly my younger son who spent more time with
all the animals said that's not one of Mrs
Holter's cows
OK so we go out there and I can see
OK this is a bull
She only has two girls
Um Stunned obviously and um he's so cute he's deceptively
gentle looking so we were probably a little bit too
close while we were still ignorant of what we were
dealing with but basically we're just out there filming neighbors
are coming out at the exact same time one of
our neighbor's dogs escaped
So there was a bit of a confrontation with the
bull which caused that dog to run away
So there's a whole another story of the neighbors having
to search for their dog while we're filming this bull
Who do we call Who do we call So got
on the phone with animal control
Um they came out I he said it's a bull
right I said yes a cow with horns a male
bull B U L L
So they sent somebody out
And I made a joke bring a rope ha ha
and he comes out in a car
Obviously he's not going to stuff this side of beef
into into a car
So he sort of scratches his head and he's like
OK I'll be back
Two guys show up from animal control a little while
later a lot more head scratching phone calls lots of
people walking around with their phones making calls
Nobody can locate an owner
They interviewed the surrounding property owners
No luck there
They came back a third time and this is now
right before you and I spoke so it's been about
the bull has been around for about 4 or 5
hours now
Ask me if he could spend the night
Um what I left out was I realized this is
a large animal
I had this sense of uh nobility and care for
the community and thought what if we could corral him
You know like I've done with stray dogs that wandered
in the street just so he's not causing accidents he's
not you know charging anyone
So he really came to us pretty easily
We lured him into the backyard
We've got a nice lush fresh grass of course being
summer
So he followed in and we share a fence with
the neighbor
Where the girl is that he was after to begin
with
So right now he's back there they're sort of connecting
through the gate he's relaxed he's laying down but Yeah
he's been in the yard and um
We don't know who he belongs to
Apparently these things can travel for miles and miles and
he's got no identifying anything
I mean he's beautiful very healthy animal um and I'm
learning that it's a lot easier to put a stray
dog in your backyard and have that situation wrap up
in a cow because I'm my son's birthday party is
here on Saturday
We cannot have a bull in the backyard
So I'm hoping animal control comes through tomorrow
Yeah so remind me do you have any pets at
your house We have a dog who would lose her
mind if she saw this animal because she will hunt
down you know a bird in a bush
So um she's been inside all day poor thing
We've been walking her in the front
Um we do have some chickens that I can't get
to because they're in a separate fenced area that I
have to get to by crossing where Mr
Bull is here so
That's where we're at
Wow
Can you go ahead and uh flip the camera around
and show me the bowl right now Sure thing
Um OK I know how to do it when it's
my phone but not um like on Zoom
Yeah I'm not sure if you can do it on
Zoom
You might just have to like physically wait now here
it is here we go
OK I'm gonna zoom in
And there he is relaxed with his lady friend hoping
he can lure her over
Wow so he has just been like that
Since he since he got there
This is the first he's been laying down
He has really been um just kind of patrolling making
a big circle around the yard
We did get some water to him which he seemed
grateful to drink so he's been you know the yard's
pretty large
We've got a lot of trees and stuff
He's sort of been Scouting out behind all this growth
see if there's like a a gap in the fencing
for him um but he's I think resigned that this
is the best way for him to look at his
target through this shared gate
Wow that is just unbelievable
And which um neighborhood are you in in Apex Well
we're not in a in a subdivision per se
We're in a small parcel of a few homes
We're an unincorporated apex near that Target um near the
Costco at in Garner the new one
OK gotcha
Have you and your boys come up with a name
for him yet Everybody's saying the obvious one which is
Ferdinand
Um but I don't know that we'd go so far
as to name him
Um if he was
Shall we say cut he'd be called you know
Beef Wellington but he's not cut so that's not an
option if no one claims him
I don't know he's sweet
He's very sweet
Somebody please come get your bowl though
What is your plan if you know animal control tomorrow
can't do anything about it My gosh I haven't thought
that far ahead um
Uh probably try to lure him into another paddock so
we can at least have a party here on Saturday
Um I don't know
Let's not speak that
Yeah exactly
Well I think everything will turn out all right
I'm hoping it's the best for you all
And for him
Yes please if you're missing a beautiful red Angus bull
who's very healthy and about 16 to 1800 pounds please
come get him
Southern Wake County
Well thank you so much Angelus
I really appreciate it and I hope everything turns out
all right by tomorrow and that your son can have
his birthday party on Saturday too
All right
You have a good evening
Thanks you too
Goodbye
Bye
