Authorities say scammers may create fake relief campaigns using copied government logos, fraudulent QR codes and social media pages. Some may also pose as victims or relatives who urgently need money.

Police urge donors to find relief funds through official government websites instead of links shared online. People should avoid sending money to personal bank accounts or e-wallets and confirm the recipient’s name before approving a QR-code payment.
Anyone receiving an urgent request from a loved one should call that person directly to verify it. Police also warn people never to share their PIN, card details or one-time password.
