Cafe Carolina and Bakery is closing after several decades in Raleigh.
The breakfast and lunch spot's last day at its most recent location, 2130 Clark Ave., beside Village District, will be Monday, Aug. 31.

It's the last location, as Cafe Carolina closed its Cary and Chapel Hill locations in 2021.
The owner, Rob Hines, posted the following message on Facebook and on the doors of the business:
Many things have changed over the past six years that have made it difficult for a business like ours to survive. We've fought hard to pivot -- making menu changes, moving locations, focusing on delivery options -- but in the end it was never quite enough. This decision was not made lightly, but we know it is the right one. And while we're extremely sad to close this chapter, we also look back on the last 30 years in the Triangle and beyond with infinite gratitude. From chatting with regulars daily over coffee to seeing children who used to come to Cafe with their parents now drive themselves to see us -- you've allowed us to be a part of your lives and that is the greatest privilege.
Cafe Carolina and Bakery moved just down the road from its previous spot inside Village District at 401. Daniels St. several years earlier. That spot is now Postino, a wine bar.
Cafe Carolina and Bakery was a popular brunch and lunch spot known for its salads, sandwiches, sweet potato biscuits and bakery items, like a signature blue cupcake, cookies and blueberry crunch bagels.
The owner encouraged people to share their memories under the Facebook post, and hundreds did so. The Facebook post has over 200 comments and has been shared by dozens of people.
