The Wake County Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss the 2026-2027 budget.
The meeting comes a week after teachers held protests over proposed cuts to special education funding.

Wake County special education teachers and staff were notified last week that the district is planning to cut its special education programs by $18 million. To do this, it would layoff special education teachers.
The district says the programs would still follow state-recommended guidelines.
The Wake County North Carolina Association of Educators said those layoffs would leave 130 special education teachers without a job. The group is calling on district leaders to fund critical staffing, support services and pay increases for special education programs.
On Friday, Wake County Public School System Superintendent Robert Taylor talked about the challenges the district faces in a "State of the Schools" address.
Taylor spoke to several ongoing issues and complications the district is navigating, and said federal funding levels are projected to adjust, though the state budget has yet to be finalized. This comes as crucial resources such as transportation, utilities and fuel rise in cost and the district lacks a uniform AI policy.
The board of education will meet at 5 p.m. to discuss the budget.
