The founder of a nonprofit accused of failing to pay his employees appeared briefly in court on Monday. He fainted later while speaking to reporters in the elevator.
Courtney Jordan, who runs the organization known as CJF America, appeared in Durham County court on a charge of obtaining property by false pretenses and allegations that he failed to pay employees.

WRAL News was there and spoke with Jordan at length after his court appearance. While Jordan was speaking to reporters, he fainted in the elevator.
In court an hour earlier, the judge reprimanded Jordan for showing up late to his appearance. Jordan said he was on time but that he was dealing with a medical episode and had to step away.
He also stated his plans to hire an attorney.
While speaking with reporters after court, Jordan denied allegations of failed payments to his employees.
He previously told WRAL a restructuring of the organization uncovered what he described as mismanagement and people taking "a little bit too many liberties."
"A lot of the employees that were featured on your news program and others were not even employees," Jordan said. "They had no official contract with the organization, and it's sad."

Jordan also faces criminal charges in Person County involving a high-speed chase with deputies.
