Federal immigration officials arrested a Wake County man for lying on his immigration paperwork to gain citizenship.
A federal indictment accuses Miguel Olivera Borda of falsely stating he lived with wife, an American citizen, since their marriage in 2019. Investigators said the two had been separated since 2020. According to the indictment, Olivera Borda falsely filled out immigration paperwork as recently as earlier this year.

Olivera Borda's brother Wilson was the subject of a previous WRAL investigation. He was convicted in 2024 of nine counts of wire fraud for defrauding the Paycheck Protection Program, the COVID relief fund to help businesses survive the pandemic.
WRAL Investigates compared companies registered to Olivera Borda to a database of companies that received forgivable loans for businesses to keep people employed during the pandemic.
During the research, we found several of the companies that received money were nothing but shell companies. At the time, WRAL Investigates called, emailed and even went to one of Olivera Borda's operating companies, Insurance Centers in Garner, to deliver a letter with questions.
Olivera Borda never responded.
After pleading guilty to nine counts of wire fraud for each of the fraudulent loans, Olivera Borda was given credit for time served and placed on supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay more than $1 million in restitution.
As for his brother Miguel, he's still in federal custody awaiting a detention hearing on the immigration-related charges. That hearing is set for September 9, 2026.
