A man is in jail Saturday after Raleigh police officers said he shot at auto shop workers.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. at New Life Auto Care on Renfrow Road. Police said a customer, later identified as 54-year-old Elvin Fields, of Henderson, had previously left his car at the shop for repairs.

When Fields returned on Saturday to discuss payment, he became upset with the amount workers said he needed to pay. During the discussion, police said Fields pulled out a pistol, shot at an employee behind the counter, and demanded his keys. Fields then walked into the auto bay with three employees and demanded his keys back.
Employees gave Fields his keys back. According to police, Fields then walked outside and fired another shot into the ground in the employees' direction before driving off. Police arrested Fields and recovered two guns and a bulletproof vest he had under his shirt.
No one was injured in the shooting. Police said Fields faces 13 charges, including:
- Four counts of assault by pointing a gun
- Four counts of second-degree kidnapping
- One count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
- One count of discharging a weapon into occupied property
- One count of going armed to the terror of people
- One count of carrying a concealed gun
- One count of discharging a firearm in the city
Warrants indicate Fields is facing second-degree kidnapping charges because for each employee, he "removed the victim from one place to another, without the consent of the victim, and for the purpose of terrorizing" them.
