An elementary school in Edgecombe County was briefly placed on lockdown after a threat of violence was called in, according to the sheriff's office.
Just after 8 a.m., deputies said they were at GW Carver Elementary School in Pinetops to investigate. No one was allowed into the school as deputies investigated the threat.

Pinetops Police Department shared on Facebook that all children and staff are safe and the school is secure.
The lockdown was lifted just after 9 a.m.
