A citation against the former Wake County sheriff related to traffic infractions has been dropped.
According to court documents obtained by WRAL News, Wake County prosecutors dismissed the citation against Gerald Baker on Tuesday.

Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman said it’s common practice to drop a driving without a license charge if someone comes to court with proof they’re licensed.
Baker, the former sheriff of Wake County, was pulled over on back-to-back days in January for speeding in Wake and Johnston counties.
On Jan. 3, state troopers pulled Baker over for speeding in Johnston County along I-40. The next day, Baker was pulled over again, this time in Rolesville and given a warning for speeding, and was ticketed in Rolesville for driving without a license.
Baker served as Wake County sheriff from Dec. 2018 until Dec. 2022.
Court documents show that Baker is still cited for the Johnston County speeding incident.
