A crash involving a motorcycle and multiple cars was severely blocking traffic on Interstate 40 East early Saturday morning.

As of 10 a.m., all lanes have reopened.
WRAL was on the scene of a crash that blocked almost all three lanes of I-40 East, near Exit 276 near Southpoint in Durham just before 6 a.m.
At around 5:10 a.m., officers responded to multiple 911 calls about a crash involving a motorcycle. The driver of a tractor-trailer witnessed the accident and promptly stopped traffic to tend to the motorcyclist.
Upon arrival, officers found the motorcyclist, who was quickly transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries.
For over four hours, traffic was heavily backed up on I-40 E, taking about 10-20 minutes for cars to get by this crash.
Officers told WRAL that investigators are on the scene at this time still determining the details of the crash. This remains an active investigation.
