Some lanes in downtown Raleigh will be closed starting Thursday morning, as construction gets underway around the Raleigh Convention Center.
Two lanes on McDowell Street are blocked off from the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard exit ramp to West Cabarrus Street. One lane will be open.

The city recommends using Wilmington Street to get around the closure.
The construction comes more than a month after authorities say a mechanical failure caused a fire on the roof of the Raleigh Convention Center. The Dec. 1 fire caused an estimated $2 million in damage, according to Raleigh Fire Chief Herbert Griffin.
On Thursday, a crane will be set up on McDowell Street to remove the damaged roof and other equipment. Crews will then put in temporary AC units.
The road closure is set to last through Sunday.
