Dog killed, family displaced by Durham apartment fire

The Durham Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on Friday morning along Camellia Drive.

The fire department said a chief officer saw smoke and flames coming from the apartment around 10:45 a.m.

One person was in the apartment at the time and was able to get out safely, according to the fire department.

Firefighters said they found a small dog inside. Despite efforts to revive the dog, it died on the scene.

The fire department said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross is helping the two adults and one child displaced.
