A fox tested positive for rabies in Burlington, marking Alamance County's fourth rabies case of the year, according to the North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health.
Someone reported a potentially rabid fox near Garden Road and Peeler Street on Tuesday, county officials say. The fox was taken for testing and officials confirmed it was positive for rabies on Thursday.

One person was exposed and has started post-exposure treatment for rabies, officials say.
The Alamance County Health Department advises anyone who was in that area on Tuesday to check their pets for bite marks and watch them closely for signs of illness. If you believe you or a pet may have been exposed, call the ACHD at (336) 516-7715.
If you are bitten by an animal, wash the wound with soap and water for 10 minutes and get medical help immediately. Do not try to capture the animal; instead, call Burlington Animal Control and tell them where and when you saw it.
