A gas leak caused a major section of the road to shutdown in downtown Raleigh on Monday morning. 

Raleigh firefighters responded to the call around 1 a.m. at the intersection of S. Wilmington Street and Martin Street.

Raleigh's fire chief told WRAL News that construction work was in progress just before they received the report of a ruptured gas line.

The Raleigh hazmat team assisted crews with making repairs on scene. The road reopened a few hours later.
