Gas odor leads to evacuation at Lockhart Elementary school in Knightdale

A smell of gas on Wednesday led to an evacuation at Lockhart Elementary School in Knightdale.

Before 10 a.m., Lockhart Elementary School Principal Tomarah Lipscomb sent the following message to families:

"All students and staff are safe. Staff members noticed a gas odor in the building. We immediately contacted the fire department and evacuated our building. The fire department has arrived and is investigating."

Lockhart Elementary School is a year-round school. Sky 5 is on the way.
