CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A Gastonia man was arrested Wednesday after sending a text message to a coworker claiming there was a bomb inside Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, according to Charlotte Police.
Christian Cox, 25, was charged with felony false bomb report in a public building. According to arrest warrants Cox sent a text message to his coworker stating "Don't be a hero, I got a bomb in the elevator RN (right now)" while both were working inside a secured area of the airport.

According to arrest records, Cox sent a follow-up text shortly after saying the message was a joke. Cox is an American Airlines employee whose job duties require access to the secured side of the baggage area, according to arrest records. American Airlines has not issued a public comment.
Officers arrived at the airport at approximately 6:45 p.m.
Cox was arrested and posted a $10,000 bond. He has his first appearance on Thursday and will be back in court on March 19 at 1:30 p.m.
