“On behalf of the entire Wake County Sheriff’s Office, we extend our deepest sympathies to the family. Please keep all who have been affected by this tragedy in your prayers,” Sheriff Willie Rowe said.

The girl’s name was not released.

Raleigh Beach is a stretch of the Neuse River popular with swimmers and kayakers.

At least four people drowned there in 2024. Following those drownings, the city of Raleigh implemented safety measures, including warning signs in English and Spanish and a gate to restrict vehicle access.
