Hillside High School lockdown lifted, no weapon found on Durham campus

A lockdown was lifted Tuesday at Hillside High School in Durham after reports of a student with a weapon being on campus, Durham Public Schools said.

The Durham County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the school, but did not find any weapons.

The school released students just before 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. The school day typically ends at 4:15 p.m. at Hillside High School.

Carrboro High School was also placed on lockdown on Tuesday after shots were fired in the area. No one was hurt.

Hillside High School was locked down in September 2025 and May 2025.
