The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office identified the two Durham men who died in the past week on Jordan Lake.

Daniel Garcia Garcia, 25, and Manuel Mauro Sifuentes Soto, 36, died after they were reported missing on Sunday, according to the sheriff’s Office.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of these two young men,” said Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson. “Our thoughts are with their families and loved ones.

“We are grateful to all the agencies that came together in this difficult time to assist in the search and recovery efforts.”

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office found one of the men Wednesday morning, and the other on Tuesday.

The sheriff’s office men were last seen on Sunday afternoon after launching a canoe from the Martha’s Chapel Road access area. Authorities found their unoccupied canoe later that evening.

It prompted an extensive, multi-agency search effort that spanned three days.

Tropical Depression Chantal brought several inches of rain and flooding to parts of North Carolina.

The community has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the funeral expenses for the two men.
