A Johnston County teacher was arrested Friday after she allegedly struck a 5-year-old student, according to court records.
50-year-old Cathy Medlin of Goldsboro is charged with misdemeanor child abuse and assault on a child under 12.

Selma police said the assault happened at Selma Elementary School.
An arrest warrant alleges Medlin struck the boy on the side after finding him hiding under a table. The boy had minor injuries, police said.
WRAL News has reached out to Johnston County Public Schools to learn more about what Medlin teaches, how long she has been with the school system and if a message was sent out to parents or staff.
Medlin was released from the Johnston County Detention Center after posting a $4,000 bond. She is scheduled to make her first court appearance Oct. 20 in Johnston County.
