Selma police are investigating a train crash after a man was fatally hit Tuesday morning in Smithfield.
According to Johnston County dispatchers, officials responded to the train accident call before 5:15 a.m. Selma Police Department is investigating the accident that happened behind the Johnston Square Shopping Center on South Pollock Street, tucked in between Interstate 42 and U.S. Highway 301.

Sky 5 flew over the accident where police tape could be seen blocking off the area in front of one train car, and more surrounding an area that is assumed to be where the person was injured. The train was stopped.
Police cruisers were seen taking up the back lot of a shopping center and police were seen scattered in the woods behind the center, by the tracks, to investigate.
This incident remains under investigation by the Selma Police Department. No other details were released pending notification of the man's next of kin.
