A juvenile boy remains hospitalized in critical condition Sunday after being shot by his girlfriend, according to Rocky Mount Police.

Thursday at 4:15 a.m., officers responded to a shooting in the 900 block of Strawbush Road.

When officers arrived, they found a boy who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators determined the victim and his girlfriend, who is also a juvenile, were inside the home when an argument took place.

During the dispute, the girl shot the boy, police said.

The suspect remained at the scene and was taken into custody. She is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility.

She has been charged with the following:

  • Assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill
    • Possession of a handgun by a minor
      • Possession of a stolen handgun

        Police said the gun used in the shooting was reported stolen to the Rocky Mount Police Department in December 2024.
