North Carolina's Department of Labor is asking Poe Hall demolition crews to verify that they’re following safety protocols.

The demolition follows years of concerns about toxic PCB contamination found inside the NC State University building.

However, letters obtained by WRAL Investigates reveal complaints to the Department of Labor, suggesting that crews have been seen working without proper protective gear while in and around the building.

The department sent letters to the contractors dated Aug. 21.

They ask those companies to investigate conditions and report findings and any actions taken in response.

Contractors now have seven working days after receiving the notification to respond or face possible inspection.
