Large, unpermitted party in Durham disrupts evening commute, police say

A large party on Wednesday afternoon at a Durham park caused several traffic issues during the evening commute.

According to the Durham Police Department, officers responded to a report of a large party at Merrick-Moore Park along North Hoover Road. Police said they were told several hundred cars were parked up and down the road.

Sky 5 flew over the scene briefly as officers moved to clear the partygoers out of the park.

Police said they broke up the party because it was unpermitted.

Police said a large crowd created dangerous road conditions due to the volume of vehicles and pedestrians.

Police said North Carolina Central University campus police also assisted since the party involved students at the school.
