Jonah Garson is expected to be appointed to fill the North Carolina senate seat for Caswell, Orange and Person counties, according to a press release from Dogwood campaigns. He will serve the remainder of Graig Meyer's term and will appear on the ballot in November's election. Meyer resigned on March 31 to take a job as Executive Director of the North Carolina Justice Center.
Garson announced his candidacy on March 18, and was selected by the District 23 Nominating Committee. Their decision was announced Saturday afternoon when Garson received 636 votes, and his opponent had 65.

Garson, a Chapel Hill native, has worked in public policy for over 10 years in North Carolina and New York. He served in the Labor Bureau of the Office of the New York Attorney General. He has spent the last six years in North Carolina as a lawyer in civil cases in state and federal court.
He has also served as the Chair of the Orange County Democratic Party, executive member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP, and as a voter protection director.
"I have worked in every corner of this state, in almost all 100 counties, to get food, smart leaders elected at every level of government, " Garson said. "It's a big job."
Garson said his experience across the state helps him understand and represent different communities. He said his job is to work with the people of Caswell, Orange and Person counties, and handle politics at the same time.
Gov. Stein is expected to appoint Garson to the Senate seat on Monday, Apr. 6 at the upcoming start of the short session with leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives.
