A man who left a work release assignment Thursday evening in Duplin County is back in custody.

Authorities say Kevin Worsham, 44, left his assignment in Teachey. He returned to the work site on Friday morning and was taken into custody.

Worsham was assigned to Carteret Correctional Center, a minimum security prison near Newport. He has a criminal record dating back to 2004, including a past sex offense requiring him to register as a sex offender.

Worsham will face felony escape charges and will be moved to Central Prison in Raleigh.

Worsham was serving a sentence for failing to report an address change to the sex offender registry, as well as breaking and entering and larceny.

His release was previously scheduled for December 2025.
