Crews repair water main break in Durham after massive fountain spews from the ground

Utility crews have controlled a large water main break in a Durham neighborhood.

Early Friday morning, the WRAL Breaking News Tracker stumbled across a forceful fountain of water streaming out of a hole in the ground in Durham.

The water main break was in a neighborhood on Radcliff Circle near Revere Road, close to Parkwood Elementary School. There appeared to be no impact to traffic.

At 4:45 a.m., WRAL's photojournalist estimated the water fountain spewing from the ground was about 30 feet high. The water was still forcefully spraying from the ground until 5:55 a.m., when it was finally shut off.

Utility crews from Durham Water Management were at the scene.
