Dryer fire damages rooms at Durham Rescue Mission chapel, no injuries reported

Durham Rescue Mission officials said several rooms in the Chapel building were damaged. Officials are still working to learn the full extent of the damage.

A dryer caused a large fire at the Durham Rescue Mission’s Chapel Building on Friday.

Durham Rescue Mission officials said crews responded to the scene quickly and worked to contain the fire and nearby areas. No injuries were reported.

“We’re extremely grateful for the Durham Fire and Police Departments. They responded very quickly and contained the fire," Vice President of Development Ernie Mills, Jr. said. "No one was injured, but several rooms sustained damage. We will assess the damage and determine how to best continue care for Durham’s most vulnerable people."

Officials are still working to learn the full extent of the damage. Programs and services for guests and residents will continue with adjustments as needed.
