Person dead in head-on crash on NC 56 in Franklin County

One person is dead after a head-on crash occurred on N.C. Highway 56 in Franklin County Tuesday morning.

According to the State Highway Patrol, a Nissan Altima was traveling west on NC 56 (W. Green Street), and a Chevrolet was driving east. The crash happened between Green Hill Road and Fred Wilder Road.

Preliminary investigation found that the Nissan went left of the center line and collided head-on with the Chevrolet. The driver of the Nissan was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. SHP said the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. 

The name of the driver has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. 

SHP said impairment does not appear to be a factor in this crash. 

SHP did not provide any additional details into any other injuries and if this crash will remain under investigation.
