Garner police said Nathan Lorne Tharp tried to run a woman down with his vehicle, then ran from officers before barricading himself in a home on Alta Crest Lane Sunday afternoon.
The officers fired their guns to try and stop Tharp, but did not hit him.

He drove his vehicle into a home, then forced himself inside where a family was present. Officers were able to get the family out safely.
But it took several hours of negotiations with SWAT officers before Tharp surrendered.
Police have not released the names of anyone involved. The investigation is still ongoing.
He is charged with:
- Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill or Inflict Serious Injury
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon
- Assault on a Female
- Misdemeanor Domestic Violence
- Felony Breaking and Entering
- Felony Damage to Property
