Portions of McDowell Street near the Raleigh Convention Center will be closed this week so equipment can be delivered following the massive Dec. 1 fire.
The Raleigh Convention Center is preparing to resume regular operations with new cooling elements and a permanent kitchen set to be installed in the coming weeks. A crane will return to McDowell Street to load the new equipment onto the roof. There will be weeklong lane closures on McDowell Street beginning April 1, according to the city.

Also happening over the next two weeks, pieces of the permanent kitchen will be installed. Since January, the center has operated from a mobile kitchen in Red Hat Amphitheater.
Despite large flames spotted shooting from the roof, the Dec. 1 fire did not spread to any nearby buildings, and there was limited damage inside the building, according to Mayor Janet Cowell. However, fire officials estimated the damage to the roof would amount to about $2 million.
The blaze was found to be "gas fueled" after an initial investigation.
