Police: Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad commander charged $127,000 to department credit card

A Commander at a rescue squad in Roanoke Rapids was arrested after spending over $127,000 on the department's credit card in a year.

In early February, Roanoke Rapids Police Department was asked to investigate possible embezzlement by a member of the Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad.

The investigation found that  Roanoke Valley Rescue Squad Commander Timothy Pittman had charged over $127,000 on the department's credit card in one year. He used the funds on the card to pay for his personal utilities, along with other personal expenses. 

Pittman turned himself in to Roanoke Rapids police on Wednesday and was charged with embezzlement greater than $100,000.

He posted a $250,000 bond and will appear in court on March 10.
